Person Margaret Gale

1880-1953 Margaret Gale spent most of her childhood in Germany until the death of her father. Her mother remarried and the family settled in Southwell, Nottinghamshire. She was educated at Nottingham High School and unsuccessful studied mathematics at Girton College, Cambridge. She went on to study for a University of London degree in German at Royal Holloway College. She spent her professional life working for the schools of the Girls' Public Day School Trust first as an assistant mistress and then the head of Ipswich High School (1909-1919), Blackheath High School, (1919-1931), and Oxford High School, (1931-1937). Her teaching career was cut short when she was hit by lightening in 1936. After a prolonged visit to the Holy Land, she settled at Saffron Waldron where she dedicated herself to social and religious activities. She died in March 1953.
