Person Jessie Margaret Hunter McCraig

c1891-1965 Jessie Margaret Hunter McCraig graduated from Edinburgh University and trained to be a teacher at Clapham High School, a school run by the Girls' Public Day School Trust (GPDST) . After her training she travelled to France to teach modern languages at Sorbonne University. She returned to the UK and taught at George Watson Ladies College. In 1924 she was appointed to the headship of the GPDST school, Birkenhead High School where she remained until she transferred to Notting Hill and Ealing High School, another GPDST school. She retired in 1950 but continued to be connected to the Trust. In 1951 she became the first honorary secretary of the Friends of the Girls' Day School Trust, a post she held until 1963.
