She graduated from Glasgow University in 1918 and was in France at the end of World War One. She was the head of the Queen Mary High School in Liverpool, 1927-1939 and the Girls' Public Day School Trust's  Croydon High School, 1939-1953. She was also member of the Central Advisory Council for Education, 1945-1953; Chair of the Joint Committee of the Four Secondary Association, 1948-1950; President of the Association of Head Mistresses, 1946-1948; a member of the Council of the Institute of Education, 1950-1960 (where she had also lectured on thier international course); President of the International Federation of Teachers in Secondary School, 1952-1956; member of the Advisory Committee on education at the Colonial Office, 1958-1961; and member of the British Committee for the Interchange of Teachers between the UK and the USA. She completed two world tour, 1949-1950 and 1961-1962 where she lectured in various countries under various organisations including the British Council. She visited schools in the USSR in 1954 and hosted visit of Russian teacher to the UK in 1955. In 1961 she toured schools, colleges and universities in China. She died on 3 November 1983.</Nationality>
