Person Marion Thorn

1905-2001 (Edith) Marion Thorn was born in 1905 and graduated from the University of London BA in mathematics. She taught at Southlands School, 1927-1931, and St Mary's Hall, Brighton, 1931-1935. She joined the staff of the Girls' Public Day School Trust Portsmouth High School in 1935 to teach mathematics. The school was evacuated to Winchester in 1939 and in 1941 Marion was appointed acting head when Miss Watt moved to another post and later became the head of the school. he retired in 1968, but returned briefly to the Trust to become the acting head of Brighton and Hove High School for two terms after their head mistress, Irene Ashcroft, fell seriously ill and died suddenly.
