c.1901-1979 Gladys Belton was educated at High School for Girls, Worthing, and King's College, University of London. In 1923 she gained her Teachers' Diploma from the University of London. She taught at Ancaster House School, 1923-1925; Lewes County Secondary School, 1925-1929; and the Girls' Public Day School Trust's (GPDST) Brighton and Hove School, 1929-1949. In 1949 she was appointed the head of the GPDST's Newcastle Central School at the age of 47, where she remained until her retirement in 1962.
