c.1908-1969 Irene Ashcroft was educated at The Girls' Public Day School Trust (GPDST) Belvedere School, Liverpool, 1916-1928 and St Hugh's College, Oxford, 1928-1932. She graduated with a degree in classics and later took an MA in 1935. After graduating she was involved in general social work under a House Property manager and a probation officer. Her first teaching post was at Huyton College, Liverpool before teaching at the County High School, Wellingborough from January 1934. From 1934-1950 she taught at the GPD ST Wimbledon High School. In 1950 she was appointed the head of the GPDST Brighton and Hove High School.
