Corporate Inner London Education Authority 1965-1990 The Inner London Education Authority (ILEA) was the education authority for the 12 inner London boroughs. It was established in 1965 by the Greater London Council (GLC) replaced the London County Council as the principal local authority for London. The GLC was the education authority for inner London, but delgated responsibility to the ILEA as a 'special committee', consisting of the members of the GLC from the Inner London area, plus one member delegated from each of the inner London boroughs and the City of London. It was abolished in 1990 as part of the 1988 Education Reform Act, and individual London boroughs then became education authorities.
