Corporate Art Advisory Board 1910-[1944] The Trust appointed the Art Advisory Board (initially called the Art Teaching Committee) to inspect and examining schools as well as design a curriculum for art in 1910. The Board was made up of notable artists who were all involved in art education; the first members were Sir George Clausen (chair), Vignoles Fisher, Henry Tonks, and Selwyn Image. The Board introduced the Art Advisory Board Certificate, which was also taken by the Grey Coat Hospital School in London and Queen Anne's School in Caversham. In 1917, Archibald Standish Hartrick replaced Tonks on the committee. Sir John Adams was also a member of the committee around this time. From the mid 1920s, Trust schools began to withdraw from the Board's examinations and the Board was powers were limited to just carrying out inspections. In 1928, Thomas Derrick replaced Selwyn Image on the committee. By 1932 many schools took the Higher School Certificate Examinations and the board was dissolved. The Board was re-established in 1934 as an inspection body. Hartrick was the head of the committee which also included Sir William Rothenstein, Francis Ernest Jackson, Madeline Clifton, Vincent Lines, and Kenneth Rowntree. The Board was suspended in 1939 due the World War II, although Hartick continued to inspect Croydon High School. Hartrick retired in 1944 and the Board was never resumed at the end of the war.
