Corporate Sheffield High School 1878- Sheffield High School was the 15th school opened by the Girl's Public Day School Company on 12 March 1878 in a building in Surrey Street. Initially the school had 39 pupils under head mistress Mary Alger. In 1887 the school moved to new purpose built premises, designed by Henry Tanner, at Rutland Park on Clarkehouse Road. By 1906 a boarding house had been opened at Newham Lodge at 17-19 Rutland Park. In 1917 the school purchased Moor Lodge to be the new boarding house, which later became the home of the junior department. At the outbreak of World War Two the school was evacuated to Cliff College, Calver, Derbyshire, returning to Sheffield in 1944. In 1991 the junior department moved from Moore Lodge to Melbourne House. In 1999 a new Sports Hall and Sixth Form Centre were opened. In 2007 new facilities for Infants were opened at No. 4 Melbourne Avenue.
