Corporate Streatham and Clapham High School 1887- Opened as Brixton Hill High School on 22 Feb 1887 at 260 Brixton Hill, headed by Miss Alice Tovey who was in charge of 7 pupils. The school motto is 'Keep Faith'. By 1890 there were 142 pupils and in 1892 the building was extended. The school later temporarily moved to Palace Road until new building was built on Wavertree Road, Wyatt Park. The school was transferred to new premises in 1895 and was renamed Streatham Hill High School, though it was also called 'Streatham Hill and Brixton' in some publicity material up to 1918. Clapham high School merged with the school in 1938 and was renamed Streatham Hill and Clapham High School. Teacher training facilities were transfer with Clapham's to 28 Palace Road, which later was called Courtlands. On the outbreak of World War Two the school was evacuated to Brighton and Hove High School. In 1940 the school was transferred again to Guilford and some girls returned to Streatham. In 1944 the school suffered war damage and could no longer teach girls at the school, and two new buildings were found, Winchester House and Studio House in Upper Tulse Hill. As the school was rebuilt after the end of the War, the school was now housed in five separate buildings. The rebuilt school was opened on 22 October 1952. The new building became inadequate and in the 1990s a new site was acquired in Abbotswood Road, which became the home of the senior school in 1994. The junior and nursery schools remain on Wavertree Road. By 2007 the school had been renamed Streatham and Clapham High School.
