Corporate Kensington High School 1873-1948 Chelsea High School was the first school opened by the Girls' Public Day School Company on 21 January 1873 at Durham House on Smith Street in Chelsea with 20 pupils under head mistress Miss Porter. In 1879 the school moved to 152-154 Cromwell Road and was renamed Kensington High School. In 1888 the school moved to Lytham House, St Albans' Road. In 1908 the school opened a Music Training Department for training music teachers. The course continued until the mid 1930s due to lack of support. In 1941 Lytham House was destroyed by a land mine and the school moved into 17 Upper Phillimore Gardens as a temporary measure. The school was unable to find suitable premises for the school and the senior school closed in 1948. The junior school continued as Kensington Preparatory School in Phillimore Gardens.
