1895-1959 He was born in Japan to a Swedish-Finnish father and an American mother. He was educated in various European, American and British schools. He was the founder and rector of an independent progressive school in Helsingfors, Finland. He was an early member of the New Education Fellowship and founded its Section in Finland. He became a member of the Execcutive board of the Fellowship in 1931 and was appointed the chairman of the Fellowship around 1937. He moved to the USA at the begining of World War Two and did not returned to Europe in 1950. He retired as the chairman in 1951.
