Corporate Philippa Fawcett Training College [1898] Originates from a teacher training department at Clapham High School. In 1898 the school opened a Froebel Department, which was later recognised by the Board of Education and the National Froebel Union. The College also had a domestic science, art and postgraduate teacher training departments. When Clapham High School merged with Streatham Hill High School in 1938, the Froebel and postgraduate Departments moved to 28 Palace Road as the Clapham and Streatham Hill Training College. In 1947 the College became a separate body from the school and was taken over by the London County Council in 1949. The College was admitted as a constituent College of the Institute of Education in 1950 and was later renamed the Philippa Fawcett Training College. Merged with Furzedown College.
