Born on 18 Apr 1887 in Kushi, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. He lost his parents at an early age and was adopted by the Ajisaka family. Worked as an telegraph operatorat Kagoshima Undersea Telegraph Centre, until he restarted his studies at Kagoshima Normal School before moving to  Hiroshima Higher Normal School. While at Kagoshima Normal School he met an American missionary, Ms Lansing, who enrolled him in her English bible class where he was an assistant teacher. He began his teaching career at Kagawa Normal School in Shikoku. In 1915 he entered the Department of Philosophy at Kyoto Imperial University. After graduating in 1918 he joined Hiroshima Higher Normal Attached
Elementary School as the head of the Department of Educational Affairs. In 1919 he became the Director at Seijyo Elementary School, which  was at centre of the New Education Movement in Japan. In 1920 he married married Nobu Takia, who was also a teacher. Obara when on to help  found several New Education schools in Tokyo, Seijyo a second junior high school in 1922, a kindergarten in 1925 and a senior high school in 1926. All three of the schools were moved to the village of Kinuta to form the academic complex of ‘Seijyo Gakuen’. In 1929 he founded Tamagawa Gakuen, which was initially a elementary schools, but would later include an kindergarten, junior high school, senior high school and university on the same site. He also opened Obara also opened Tamagawa Gakuen in Los Angeles (1930), in Kugenuma (1933),  Kushi (1948) and at the Nanaimo campus in Canada (1976). In 1967 he became the President of the Japanese Section of the World Education Fellowship, a role he held until 1974. He died on 13 December 1977. </Nationality>
