He was president of the State Secondary School Teachers' Association, 1932-1933 and 1935-36; president of the Queensland Teachers' Union, 1936-1937; lecturer in education and experimental psychology in the department of philosophy, University of Queensland, 1937-1946; part-time senior psychologist in the Department of Labour and National Service, 1943-1945; associate professor of education and experimental psychology, University of Queensland from 1946; dean of the faculty of education, University of Queensland from 1949; and director of external studies, University of Queensland, from 1950. He was also chairman of the State branch of the National Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis in Australia, 1956-1957; chair of the education committee of the Crèche and Kindergarten Association of Queensland,1945-1957; member of the Queensland Marriage Guidance Council; and Vice-President of the Queensland Section of the New Education Fellowship.  He died of cancer on 1 May 1957. </Nationality>
