Person John Parker (d. 1870)

d. 1870 Parker led the group of Brighton schoolmasters who met to discuss the formation of a College of schoolmasters, leading to the formation of the College of Preceptors. Parker was the first Secretary of the College from 1846-[1851]. He was master of Roden House School at Chipping Ongar in the 1840s. In the College of Preceptors deed of settlement (Ref: DC/COP/J) with the General Mutual Life Assurance Company, c1847, he is listed as a shareholder holding 100 shares in the College and his residential address is listed as Jeffery’s Terrace, Camden Town. He is also listed in the same document under the list of Directors which states his address as Great Russell Street, Middlesex. He died on the 13th September 1870 at New Malden aged 69. His wife Anne continued to teach and was charge of a private school at Kingston in 1871.
