Description | Mary Elizabeth Polain, a 65 year old widow, requests to be admitted to the Hospital. She was born on 12 August 1784. Her parents were John and Mary Key. The petitioner's maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Grout, was originally from Normandy and arrived in England whilst an infant. She was baptised at the French Church, but the exact name of the church is not given. She then married John Key and became a resident of the French Hospital in c. 1729. Mary Elizabeth is a weaver but suffers from poor eyesight, asthma and general weakness so can no longer work. The petition is signed by Mary Elizabeth Polain herself and William Perkins.
