DescriptionJohn Martin, a 55 year old widower, requests to be admitted to the Hospital. He was born on 16 September 1795. His parents were John Martin and Mary Asmat, or Assemat. His paternal grandfather, also called John, emigrated from Saintonge to avoid religious persecution. His paternal grandmother, Anne, was also a Huguenot refugee but the place from which she came from in France is not given. John Martin's maternal grandparents, David and Mary Assemat, were both Huguenot refugees from Poitou. John used to be a Master Turner, but following an accidental fall from from a ladder, which resulted in internal injuries, he can no longer work enough to be financially independent. The petition is signed by John Martin himself and Henry William Dunning.
