DescriptionPapers regarding a survey of Trust schools carried out by psychologist Marian Milner. During her work she visited schools to talk to staff and parents, assess groups and individual girls through interviews and intelligence test. The research was published in 1938 as apart of the 'Contributions to Modern Education' series at the suggestion of Susan Isaacs.
Includes her published research 'The Human Problems in Schools: a psychological Study carried out on behalf of the Girls' Public Day School Trust' (Methuen, 1938) enclosing an obituary of Milner dated 1998, and correspondence/reports arranged into 4 'volumes' reflecting periods of Mrs Milner's research as follows:
Vol. I) Milner's appointment and her initial work, 1934-1936.
Vol. II) final and draft version of her interim report on the investigation of two schools (Streatham Hill and Oxford) and the Trust and head mistresses response to the report, Jun 1936- Aug 1936.
Vol. III) Milner's second report on her visit to Putney, Wimbledon and Sheffield schools, including observations by the head mistresses' on Milner's second report; and letters from other headmistresses requesting visits from Milner, Aug 1936-Dec 1936.
Vol. IV) Milner's later work for the Trust including her proposals to visit all Trust schools and the appointment of a permanent Trust psychologist to look at specific problems; reports on visits; publication of her research; and the Trust suspension of her duties due to the outbreak of War, Jan 1937-4 Oct 1939.
