| Description | This is in fact the Steward's rough register of inmates, one or two to a page, recording for each the name and address of next-of-kin and any instructions as to burial. After about 1900 the age or date of birth and date of entry are usually added, and sometimes eventually the date of death, with occasionally other particulars. All inmates in 1891 appear to have been entered, and others added as admitted in later years up to 1935, when the book was full. Up to 1907 there are lists of linen and clothing issued to each inmate, and on pp. 140-144 lists of linen issued to staff. A number of loose papers are inter-leaved, mostly letters from relatives. |
