Description | Commonplace book, written front and back in several hands, probably over several generations. The reverse of the book is the larger portion, containing a pencil drawing followed by prose extracts from religious writings and sermons, in a single hand. The front portion of the book contains poetry and drawings in pencil, watercolour, and ink. Subjects include a pencil drawing titled "Source of the Thames" dated 1833, a colour drawing of a duck using both pencil and watercolour, a scene of the shore of Slaughden, ballet dancers, and dogs. One entry is accompanied by an ink drawing of the swinging bridge at Carrick-a-Rede, County Antrim. The poetry and drawing entries are often initialled and sometimes dated. |
